CIS is delighted to announce that Mr Simon Murray will be joining the International School of Florence (ISF) as their new Head of School after an extensive search process. Our sincere congratulations go out to Simon and ISF for this excellent appointment.

Simon Murray joins ISF from the International School of Paris where he has been serving as Head of School since 2014. ISP is the only IB Continuum World School in France. Simon has worked in leadership positions in a variety of international schools in Spain, Italy and The Netherlands. Prior to the International school Paris, Simon was the Head of School at the International School Maastricht, where he introduced the IB Middle Years Programme, helped lead the construction of its new campus as well as supporting its transition towards the becoming United World College, Maastricht.

ISF selected CIS Leadership Searches, represented by Pauline O’Brien, Director of Career & Recruitment Services, to lead the search for a new Head of School, in a process involving the faculty, staff members, parents, student associations, and the ISF Board. CIS received an initial 100 applications, a measure of ISF’s reputation as a world class school. In consultation with ISF, a process of careful evaluation ensued, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school; to continue to strive for academic excellence while developing students’ creativity, intellectual curiosity, innovative spirit and appreciation for beauty, shaping a 21st Century learning-focused school. Due to the high caliber of applications, CIS was able to draw a long list of 20 outstanding, international candidates. Each of these contending candidates were personally video-interviewed by CIS and reviewed by its global team, to ensure that each candidate CIS put forward to ISF was a potential match. The school then selected five finalists to interview, subsequently inviting two to visit the school before selecting Simon Murray.

Marco Uzielli, Chairman, ISF Board of Directors: 'The Board of Directors of the International School of Florence is extremely satisfied with the appointment of Simon Murray. CIS provided an impressive level of dedication and professionalism throughout the search process, displaying a genuine interest in its positive outcome as well as in understanding the character, necessities and strategy of our School for the purpose of providing the best fit among the vast pool of excellent candidates which it attracted, interviewed and assessed. The International School of Florence moves confidently towards a future of virtuous development and academic growth with its new leader.'

Simon Murray: 'I am delighted to be joining ISF as well as returning to Italy after a 10 year absence. I was genuinely impressed during my visit not only by the school’s current achievements, but also by the real sense of ambition evident in everyone I met. I look forward to working with the Board and the school community as we move forward to execute some very impressive plans for the future. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the team at CIS for a process that was as transparent and rigorous as it was supportive.'
