Today I have the great pleasure of announcing the appointment of Edmond Maher, Director of D Y Patil International School in Antwerp, Belgium as the next Director of School Support & Evaluation. Ed will succeed Ray Davis in September 2018.
Following a worldwide search which attracted a strong and diverse pool of international school leaders, Ed was the unanimous choice of the Leadership Team, based upon the vision he shared for the future of our School Support & Evaluation Services. Throughout the comprehensive selection process, he asked us in-depth questions about the impact and challenges of our work in school improvement, and shared ideas on how to effectively manage our globally-dispersed team, train and engage our incredibly-committed volunteers, and extend our collaboration with national educational agencies as we continue to grow and evolve.
Ed’s been leading the D Y Patil International School as Head since its inception in 2012, when it opened its doors - transformed from the Antwerp British School, which Ed also served as Head from 2008 through 2011, where he introduced a comprehensive strategic planning programme, focusing on comprehensive cultural change.
An Australian, Ed began his educational career at St. Augustine’s College Sydney and St. Edmund’s College Canberra as a Principal and Deputy Head. His educational studies include a Master’s of Arts from the University of Notre Dame in the US, a Master’s of Educational Leadership from Australian Catholic University and a Doctor of Education from the University of Bath in the UK. Throughout his career, Ed has devoted time to public service through state government committee work and a range of community service programmes. He and his wife Caroline have three teen-aged children.
Ed shared the following thoughts on his appointment and our work ahead. “CIS is a dynamic and successful membership organisation. During the selection process I was impressed with the professionalism of the team and how they work to ensure an even brighter future. Likewise, many talented people have worked hard over the years to make the CIS International Accreditation Process the success story that it is today. I look forward to joining the CIS Team, contributing to its further development and ensuring that we continue to be a leading global voice in international education.”
Our entire Leadership Team, Bart, Dave, Kim, Pauline, Ray, Willemijn and I, are all very excited as we look forward to working with Ed in the future. We have found him to be an inquisitive, collaborative, empathetic, and quietly confident colleague.
Please join me in congratulating Ed as he continues his work within the CIS Community – now as a senior leader on our team.
With best wishes,
Council of International Schools
