CIS SYMPOSIUM ON INTERCULTURAL LEARNING | lisbon

CALL FOR SESSION PROPOSALS

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 18 November 2017

CIS is seeking high quality session proposals relevant to international school leaders and teachers focused on the development of intercultural learning. The selection committee is seeking proposals from the following groups:

  • University faculty, researchers, and doctoral students
  • School leaders or teachers conducting action research
  • School leaders or teachers engaged in innovative and proven practice as evidenced through sound assessment measures

TOPICS AND EXAMPLES

Session proposals should consider topics related to the development of intercultural learning within the following categories:

WHOLE SCHOOL GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP: DESIGNING AND IMPLEMENTING EFFECTIVE STRATEGY
  • Agreeing on key terms: international mindedness, intercultural learning, intercultural competence, etc.
  • Crafting and assessing guiding statements related to intercultural learning
  • Designing a successful staffing and professional development plan that promotes effective intercultural learning
  • Creating and developing a team to model intercultural leadership and promote intercultural learning
  • Defining big picture KPIs for intercultural learning

MOVING BEYOND INTERNATIONAL MINDEDNESS: TEACHING AND LEARNING STRATEGIES FOR GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP
  • Unique characteristics of international school pedagogy and curriculum
  • Project based learning for global citizenship
  • Student engagement through co-curricular international learning
  • Culturally controversial issues in the local community
  • No planet no people: A provocation about global citizenship tendency to prioritise our fellow species

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • Degree of alignment with strand topic
  • Clearly defined learning objectives or key takeaways
  • Relevance to international school leaders and teachers
  • Strength of research base, assessment method, or innovative practice
  • Evidence that a session will result in practical takeaways
  • Years of experience on topic

SESSION FORMAT

  • Sessions are scheduled in 1 hour blocks
  • Presentations should be interactive
  • Presenters are encouraged to use a variety of learning techniques including, but not limited to, small group breakout discussions, partner sharing, individual reflection and large group Q&A.
  • Projectors and flipchart paper will be available
