In-depth training for those who have completed a CIS Child Protection Foundation Workshop

Continue your learning by attending a CIS Child Protection Deep Dive Workshop. Participants can choose from multiple types of workshops which run concurrently over two days. You will leave the sessions with the tools needed to move beyond compliance and to draw on the latest research and resources to develop innovative and effective practices in the areas covered. All training is tailored to the specific needs of international school communities.

Deep Dive 1: Introducing a new protocol for managing allegations of abuse against adults

Only open to individuals who have already attended a CIS Child Protection Foundation Workshop.

Preparation: identifying and building relationships with local agencies, strengthening and implementing policies and establishing a multi-disciplinary managing allegations team,

  • Response: urgent actions; supporting and responding appropriately to victims and alleged perpetrators; legal implications and conflicting duties—how to prioritize different objectives and be aware of (but not hidebound by) legal risks; external reporting obligations, risk assessments and safety plans, communicating in a crisis,
  • Follow-up: steps to take to review your systems and learn lessons

Deep Dive 2: Tackling peer-on-peer abuse and online harm in your school

Only open to individuals who have already attended a CIS Child Protection Foundation Workshop.

Whole-group sessions (for all Deep Dive 2 participants)
  • Understanding the contextual dynamics of peer-on-peer abuse
  • Writing and implementing school policies to address peer-on-peer abuse, online safety and curriculum development
  • Learning how to engage your local partners and agencies
  • Understanding abuse and engaging parents in culturally diverse communities
  • Putting together an action plan for your school 
Strand sessions

Deep Dive 2 participants can also choose from one of the following strands.

Strand 1: Preventing, identifying and responding to peer-on-peer abuse and online harm in your school

  • Using resources to identify and prevent harm (both offline and online) within your school community 

  • Learning how to respond to an allegation of peer-on-peer abuse

Strand 2: Prevention through education: Incorporating child protection into your curriculum and implementing a Comprehensive Sexuality Education programme

  • Comprehensive Sexuality and Relationships Education: New curriculum from UNESCO and WHO
  • Developing Self-Protective Skills in Students

Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS*)—including case consultation

*Certification program for counsellors and psychologists—only open to counsellors and psychologists.

  • To become certified to provide Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS)
  • To gain insights, strategies and methods through consultation to address current cases

Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS) is designed for use with groups of students who have experienced significant traumatic experiences and are suffering from related emotional or behavioral problems. Traumatic experiences include, for example, being physically injured; witnessing serious harm or violence at home, in school, online, or in the community; undergoing a traumatic loss; or being in a natural or man-made disaster. Please note that CBITS should not be used to support students who have suffered from sexual abuse.

How to Register

Registration is open to all faculty and staff, including Board Members/Governors at CIS member schools and universities, CIS affiliated consultants and supporting members.

If you are employed at a school that is a member of CIS, register via the CIS Community portal to receive the exclusive member event fee. 

Fee: €500.00 (excluding VAT)

Non-member school

If you are a guidance/university counsellor currently employed at a K-12/high school that is not a member of CIS, learn how to register.
