Transform Transitions Together:

a collaborative, whole-institution approach for effective educational transitions

Are you ready to create a more supportive, connected environment for students, families, and colleagues experiencing transitions in your educational community?

The Foundations of Transitions-Care course will help you discover the transformative power of positive transitions-care, whether you are an individual educator or part of a dedicated team. This engaging five-week online course is crafted for schools and higher education institutions eager to empower their communities with practical strategies and lifelong skills for navigating transitions.

You will learn how to embed effective transitions-care programming within your institution and why this is essential to support learners. Using a whole-institution approach fosters connections between educational stages, enabling institutions to share effective strategies across departments, anticipate transitioning students’ needs, foster resilience, and ensure that positive transitions-care is woven throughout every step of a learner’s educational experience.

Gain essential insights into how transitions impact learning, well-being, and a sense of belonging. Explore how supportive, proactive approaches to transitions-care can reduce potential risks to learning and prepare students for life’s many transitions, both within and beyond the classroom. Steeped in research-based methodology, this course ensures that learning is grounded in rigorous theoretical and practical approaches.

School attendees will benefit from structured opportunities to examine how educational transitions impact students, colleagues, and families moving between countries, cultures, and communities.

Higher Education attendees will focus on the complexities of educational transitions in higher education—such as student mobility, integration, and retention—and devise tailored responses to promote well-being and fulfill academic potential.

How you will learn & connect:

  • Resources and experiences are offered through a blended online learning experience via 5 asynchronous learning modules and 3 live synchronous, collaborative learning sessions.
  • Each module is focused on the foundations of transitions-care, equipping you to embed positive and sustainable transitions-care into your educational community.
  • In the final module, you will apply your learning to create a Transitions-Care Artefact that you can immediately implement in your institution.
  • In the third live session, participants will share artefacts and reflect on intended outcomes.
  • The course is in alignment with the CIS International Accreditation Framework.
  • The course serves as a steppingstone for further deep dive courses/workshops exploring the CIS Educational Transitions Framework elements. It is not mandatory to take this course prior to any future courses, but it is strongly recommended for individuals and teams to establish a common language and understanding of positive transitions-care.

What you can expect:

  • Connect and learn together with colleagues and people from other CIS schools and universities in an online learning environment.
  • Gain insights from positive transitions-care experts experienced in working with diverse international learning communities.
  • Reflect on your own experiences of transition and utilise diverse learning styles in engaging with the course content.
  • Build trusting relationships among your school or university team through shared learning.

Who should participate?

For schools, anyone involved in establishing and maintaining transitions programmes including teachers, counsellors, leaders, admissions and human resources.

In higher education admission professionals, student support staff, psychologists, counsellors assisting international students, and faculty.

Additional institutional benefits can be gained if you take this course with others at your institution, working through the content and exercises as a team.

Taking this course as a team creates the opportunity to grow together, strengthening collective capacity and vision. By engaging in the modules as a group, your team will not only understand the importance of well-managed transitions but also identify ways to proactively address challenges unique to your context. Team members will collaborate to evaluate current policies and practices, align shared goals, and develop a unified approach that enhances intercultural experiences and supports the entire community.

Length of course: 5 weeks (approximately 3 hours/week of asynchronous learning and 3 hours of synchronous sessions over 5 weeks)

Fee: €650.00 per person (excluding VAT)
