Biljana Torbakova | Secondary Vice Principal, Berlin International School

CIS is very pleased to announce that Biljana Torbakova has been appointed as the Secondary Vice Principal (with responsibility for Middle Years 6-10), Berlin International School

The Council of International Schools (CIS) and Berlin International School (B.I.S.) are delighted to announce that Biljana Torbakova will be joining B.I.S. as their new Secondary Vice Principal (with responsibility for Middle Years 6 - 10). B.I.S. selected CIS Leadership Search Services, represented by Pauline O'Brien and Caroline Hartevelt to lead the search for this key leadership position.

Caroline and Pauline visited B.I.S and conducted several meetings with school representatives to ensure CIS had a strong understanding of the mission and aims of the school, as well as developing a clear understanding of the recruitment process and timeline. Working in close collaboration with B.I.S, CIS then carefully evaluated all applicants, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school before making their recommendations to the school.

On the search process, Berlin International School commented:

“With the support of CIS we were able to attract a strong pool of applicants for what we originally posted as a Middle School Principalship as part of an internal leadership restructuring project. However, after much internal discussion, and consultation with CIS Leadership Search Services after their site visit and that of the successful candidate, we took the decision not to fully restructure our leadership team for 2019/20, appointing Ms. Torbakova to the role of Secondary Vice Principal (with responsibility for Middle Years). We appreciated the consultation we received throughout this process from the professionals at CIS. Their insights were invaluable in helping us in understanding where our school was at, where we might go next, and setting a realistic timeline for this journey."

Following her appointment as Secondary Vice Principal (with responsibility for Middle Years 6-10), Biljana commented:

"B.I.S were amazing throughout the process, highlighting their personal approach to education. I look forward to joining this incredible team of proficient and dedicated educators."

Biljana was most recently the High School Principal at Nova International School in Macedonia and brings considerable experience to this new role. She began her educational career in Australia and for over 15 years has served as a Teacher, Literacy Coordinator, worked within Gifted and Talented provision, and assumed various leadership roles in Middle and Senior School, as well as serving on accreditation team visits.

Biljana looks forward to moving to Berlin with her family in August and will play an active role in the continued growth and development of B.I.S., an IB World School that celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2018/19. B.I.S. is also recognised and authorised by the State of Berlin.

CIS would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Berlin International School on this fantastic appointment and wish Biljana Torbakova well in her new position.
