Zeynep Bowlus is an Istanbul-based independent counsellor who advises students seeking to continue their higher education in North America, the UK and Europe.
Above all, Zeynep values one-on-one interactions with her students to unlock their potential and determine their unique interests. She starts by helping them select courses and extra-curricular activities, projects, and internships that allow them to explore their interests and develop a competitive edge in them. She meets regularly with students and families to determine which schools are the best fit for students’ professional and academic goals, personalities, and preferences. During application season, she coaches students on their applications so that they can effectively connect their assets and unique stories with their future aspirations. Lastly, she helps them navigate the post-application process and prepares them for what can be an intimidating proposition: higher education in a foreign country.
Zeynep worked for several years for a prominent university counselling firm in Istanbul before setting up her own firm with her husband John. In addition to her professional expertise, she spent 14 years living in the United States, where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s, and four years in Dorset, England, where she completed secondary school. During her prior career in the United States, she conducted extensive research on secondary (public) and higher (public and private) U.S. education institutions, many of which she visited for assessments and conferences.
Zeynep holds a B.Sc. in Foreign Affairs from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and an M.P.A. in Public Administration from New York University.
