CIS is delighted to announce a new partnership with George Mason University (GMU), Virginia, USA, a world class research institution which has been delivering quality master’s degree coursework and licensure programs to international educators for 25 years.
This partnership was sealed by Dr. Beverly Shaklee, Professor & Director Advanced Professional Teacher Development & International Education of GMU and Pauline O’Brien, Director of CIS Career & Recruitment Services.
The Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse and Exceptional Children (TCLDEL) program at GMU houses three strands specifically targeting teachers who are currently employed in international schools or have the intent to teach in international schools. This includes International Elementary, International ESOL, and Advanced Studies in IB (IB authorized program). All programs are fully accredited by CAEP the US national accrediting body for teacher education programmes as well as being an authorized graduate institution for the International Baccalaureate.
The aim of this partnership is to support and guide graduates of GMU as they pursue careers in international education, connecting them with CIS member schools and thereby enriching the community with fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. We consider this partnership as central to putting into action the CIS mission of 'shaping the future of international education'.
We work with the IB to encourage experienced educators seeking positions in IB schools to look for positions in the CIS membership community.
Did you know, over half of CIS member schools are IB World Schools?
Promote your skills, experience and availability to IB schools by working with CIS.

Partnership with Queen’s University: new opportunities for schools recruiting teachers
Many of our member schools tell us that recently graduated educators bring a fresh perspective and enthusiasm to their schools, which often contributes to a much-needed dimension of diversity in the faculty. Despite this value of openness and array of skills, new educator candidates will no doubt face challenges at the start of their career due to their small network and unfamiliarity with logistics of working abroad. We are thrilled to have a partnership with Queen’s University in Ontario to help prepare recent graduates to find their first positions abroad.
CIS is excited to announce a partnership with State University of New York (SUNY) College at Plattsburgh. SUNY Plattsburgh’s nationally accredited education programme has been running for 120 years, a testament to their ability to innovate. The college is continually updating and redesigning their programme to reflect the latest research and emerging trends.
The aim of this partnership is to increase international opportunities for SUNY Plattsburgh Education Majors by connecting them with CIS schools through CIS Career & Recruitment Services. These opportunities may take the form of internships or teaching placements. The precise details are under discussion but the enthusiasm from SUNY Plattsburgh students is already apparent. Pauline O’Brien, Director of CIS Career & Recruitment Services, visited the college campus in March 2017 to speak to teacher candidates — from freshmen to graduate students nearing their masters in student teaching, about the possibilities of teaching overseas. Jackie Vogl, Associate Vice President for Global Education said “Our freshmen were extremely excited. In fact, three came up to after her presentation to introduce themselves and tell her to count them in”.
CIS and SUNY Plattsburgh are both excited about the possibilities this developing partnership affords.
We are pleased to have a unique and exciting partnership with The University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.
UBC enrols one of the largest number of International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme graduates worldwide. In addition, it has a vibrant Bachelor of Education professional degree programme that provides teacher candidates in the IB stream the Certificate of Teaching and Learning in either the Primary Years, Middle Years or Diploma Programme options.
Rated among the top 40 universities globally, UBC is partners with CIS to afford graduates in the IB option direct contact with member schools. Director of IB Educator Programmes at UBC, Gary Little, said, 'We not only view the partnership with CIS as a terrific opportunity for our IB-certified teacher candidates to work abroad but also as a terrific opportunity for CIS schools to hire some of the best-trained, most passionate teachers entering the profession.'
