Leadership Searches | Richard Matthews will be joining the International School of The Hague, as their Secondary School Principal

CIS is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Matthews as the new Secondary School Principal at The International School of The Hague
after an extensive search process. Our sincere congratulations go out to
Richard Matthews for this excellent appointment.

Mr Richard Matthews joins The International School of The Hague as the new Secondary School Principal as of 1 August 2018. Mr Matthews is British and comes to The International School of The Hague from South America, where he has worked as a Headmaster in Peru and Colombia. He took two schools through IB authorisation and has recently been involved in schoolwide curriculum review, the introduction of baseline testing and the CIS accreditation process. He has worked in international education since 1984 and started as a Science teacher.

The International School of The Hague retained CIS Leadership Searches, represented by Pauline O’Brien, Director of Career & Recruitment Services, to lead the search for a new Secondary School Principal. A process of careful evaluation ensued, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school in collaboration with the Selection Committee, the specially formed parent committee and student committee, the senior leadership team of the whole school and the Participation Council. Contending candidates were personally video-interviewed by CIS and reviewed before being invited to The Hague for final interview to meet with the Search Committee, Executive Director and constituent groups of the community.

Dr. Maarten W. Knoester, Executive Director, Stichting Het Rijnlands Lyceum, the group of schools under which ISH operates, commented: “Under the leadership of the current principal, Mr David Butcher, the Secondary School has grown in size and in reputation worldwide. The International School of The Hague is excited about this new appointment and looks forward to welcoming Mr Matthews to their school in August 2018 to help lead the school into a new phase in its development. Pauline O’Brien has led the search for the new principal in a very professional manner. With her experience in the recruitment for senior leadership positions in international education, she has given us valuable advice about the recruitment process and, equally important, proved to be very efficient in organizing the interviews with candidates, screening the candidates and obtaining references. CIS proved to be an excellent partner in this search and we are happy with the result.”

Richard Matthews mentioned: “I am delighted to be joining this excellent school at an important time in its development. The rapid growth of the school provides an interesting challenge and it was clear from the wide-ranging interview process that people from all sections of the school community are actively involved in school improvement. I am grateful to CIS and the school for organising such a rigorous and challenging interview process.”
