Leadership Searches | John Burns will be joining the International School of Paris (ISP) as their new Head of School

CIS is delighted to announce that John Burns will be joining the International School of Paris (ISP) as their new Head of School, after an extensive search process.
Our sincere congratulations go out to
John Burns and ISP for this excellent appointment.

John Burns joins the International School of Paris as the new Head of School. He leaves the Pechersk International School in Kiev, where he led the school through the development, construction and opening of a new campus. He also led a synchronized IB, CIS, NEASC accreditation process, all the while developing outstanding IB teaching and learning programmes.

International School of Paris selected CIS Leadership Searches, represented by Pauline O’Brien, Director of Career & Recruitment Services, to lead the search for a New Head of School, in a process involving the faculty, staff members, parents, student associations, and the ISP Board. In consultation with the Board members, a process of careful evaluation ensued, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school; to continue to thrive and challenge itself to provide the very best education to all of its students. CIS was able to draw the list of outstanding, international candidates. Contending candidates were personally video-interviewed by CIS and reviewed by its global team, to ensure that each candidate CIS put forward to the International School of Paris was a potential match. The school then selected 4 finalists to interview, subsequently inviting them to visit the school before selecting John.

Nathalie Courtel, ISP Board Chair said: John's wide-ranging experience, sincerity and deep commitment to our school and its values made him an obvious choice to lead ISP forward. In selecting John as our next Head of School, we are confident in his desire to advance the school's mission and vision.

Pieternel Kroes, Secretary Board of Trustees, thanked CIS on behalf of the Board for their support: Due to their thorough research of our specific needs and situation, wide network connections in the international educational world and highly professional guidance the CIS recruitment team lead by Pauline O’Brien, has made it possible to find the perfect match for ISP. It’s been a great pleasure to work together with Pauline and her team.

John Burns commented: I enjoy being part of an international school community where students are very proud of their home country but also develop a keen appreciation for their host country and the culture surrounding them. ISP has a unique opportunity to follow its mission, 'Educating for Complexity' in a city that offers so many rich opportunities and amazing experiences. It has been both a pleasure and a very professional experience to work with CIS and the ISP Board through the interviews, school visit and appointment steps. CIS has done a wonderful job representing the school and matching their specific requirements to my personal skill set, as a candidate. I have enjoyed great communication and service from the CIS team throughout this process. As a family, we very much look forward to our transition to Paris and ISP.

International School of Paris is excited about this new appointment and looks forward to welcoming John to their school during the summer 2018.
