The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a nonprofit membership organisation providing services to schools and higher education institutions globally that share a commitment to high quality education, and a desire to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to pursue their lives as global citizens.

CIS supports member schools to improve continuously, to access effective international educational practices, to gain recognition for accomplishments, to attract and select educational leaders and staff, to facilitate student connections with top universities around the world, and to provide a high quality international educational experience to globally-minded parents and students.

The Director of School Support and Evaluation Services is based at the CIS Netherlands office, overseeing all aspects of school evaluation, support and improvement globally, including a new service designed to help international schools enhance intercultural learning and develop global citizenship capabilities in students. S/he manages a diverse team of staff, consultants and volunteers, working collaboratively with partner organisations to ensure the continuous development of school evaluation processes and standards that reflect research-based, effective practices and innovations in international education. The Director is responsible to the Executive Director for overall results, contributing to the development of strategic objectives and providing direction for the organisation as part of the Leadership Team.


  • Monitor, review and analyse international educational research and innovative practices in international education to ensure timely implementation of evolving standards and practices and the provision of effective protocols for school evaluation and accreditation
  • Report to the Executive Director and Board of Trustees on significant developments in international education and school evaluation to ensure effective decision making
  • Ensure a reputation of educational excellence and lead outreach through the provision of proactive, professional, high quality services and expertise to meet the needs of international schools at all stages of the improvement continuum—from application for membership to granting of accredited or certified status and in effectively educating for global citizenship
  • Lead and manage the International Team, including Associate Directors, the Operations Manager, regionally based School Support & Evaluation Officers, consultants and a team of staff advisors, in the management and development of operational policies, procedures and service standards
  • Allocate resources and develop systems to ensure professional staff and peer evaluators receive training and support to implement school evaluation processes and services effectively
  • Develop and sustain dialogue and partnerships, as appropriate, with international/regional organisations and governmental agencies to undertake alignment and cooperation at the request of, and for the benefit of schools
  • As part of the Leadership Team, determine strategy, systems, structure and policies to ensure organisational effectiveness\Provide educational leadership to current and prospective member schools, via strategic school visits, meetings, workshops and conference and other presentations
  • Ensure effective communications and integration points are maintained across the organisation, working collaboratively with the Leadership Team
  • Work closely with the Head of Research and Development to set the CIS research agenda, access international educational research and present findings to members; apply knowledge to ensure timely development of evaluative protocols


Education and Experience

  • Master’s degree with a specialised credential in Education; Doctorate preferred
  • Ten years of experience in an international leadership role
  • Diverse experience leading school evaluation services internationally
  • Broad educational leadership experience, including experience as Head of an International School or CIS-Accredited School
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of school evaluation processes
  • Knowledge and understanding of diverse school settings, types, contexts and school systems
  • Knowledge and understanding of how schools improve continuously
  • Knowledge of educational concepts and systems; well-developed understanding of and exposure to international educational systems, evaluation and assessment
  • Demonstrated service orientation to support clients externally and colleagues internally
  • Outstanding organisational management and communication skills
  • Analytical skills to inform decision-making ability
  • Strong collaborative work ethic
  • Self-motivated; ability to work to deadlines and under pressure
  • Professionalism and discretion
  • Ability to recognize and appreciate other cultures; willingness to develop cultural perspectives and bridge differences
  • Flexibility to work when/where needed to meet business objectives
  • Well-developed and demonstrated spoken and written English skills

Salary and benefits will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience required for the position. The successful applicant will be engaged as a full-time employee of CIS.
