John Heard is a CIS International Advisor. Previously he served as the Director of Uskudar American Academy in Istanbul from 1992-2002 – a large and prestigious bilingual school for Turkish students. Previously (1982-1992), he was high school principal at the American School of the Hague, The Netherlands. He served as a teacher-administrator with the American Community Schools in London from 1973-1981.
John works with 75 schools in Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil and Ecuador, and with a number of CIS member schools in Europe.
John represents CIS on the NAIS Commission on Accreditation panel and has presented at a number of international conferences. His areas of professional interest include bilingual-bicultural education, effective governance practices and the important relationship between vision-mission-strategic planning.
In the summer of 2011, he taught a graduate level course for Endicott College (Massachusetts) on Strategies for Change in International Schools.
