Jean Muthamia-Mwenda joined CIS in April 2018 as a School Services Advisor within the School Support and Evaluation team. She brings 10+ years wealth of experience from the commercial and international development sector.
Prior to joining CIS, Jean worked at Aflatoun International as Programme Manager and Consultant for Africa. In her role, Jean provided regional oversight in programme implementation and partnership management to 35+ partners in 14 African countries.
Before moving to the Netherlands in 2016, Jean was the Executive Director of Junior Achievement (JA) Worldwide/Swaziland, a global NGO dedicated to educating young people in financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. She worked closely with the Board of Directors and staff to lead and strategically transition the organization during a very complex period and gradually positioning JA Swaziland as a regional and international brand, thought leader and preferred partner of multiple stakeholders including the national government, local and international donors and the private sector.
She successfully led the organization to achieve exponential annual programme growth in schools and provided technical assistance and expertise in development, design, piloting, execution, and expansion of new entrepreneurship educational programs targeting the underemployed out-of-school young people in Swaziland. Jean ensured donor and sponsor retention, consistently ensured oversight in development and implementation of key resource mobilization strategies, and successfully developed and spearheaded the implementation of several organizational policies.
Jean also worked with TechnoServe Swaziland and the Sarova Group of Hotels in Kenya where she undertook a one-year extensive executive management training programme before joining the leadership and management team and holding several positions in succession. She started her career at the Institute of Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya.
Jean holds a postgraduate degree in International Development from Eastern University, Campolo College of Leadership and Development USA; served in several NGO Boards on a pro-bono basis and volunteered for several other causes in Swaziland. In addition, she has a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Diploma in Business Management and Administration from the Kenya Institute of Management.
