There are three types of deep dive workshops which run concurrently over two days. Registrants are asked to select which deep dive workshop they wish to attend when they register. Please note that in order to register for Deep Dive 1 or 3, you must have attended a foundation workshop. 

These two-day workshops provide participants with detailed training on a narrow range of topics, providing the tools needed for school leaders and counsellors to move beyond compliance and to develop innovative and effective practices in the areas covered. All training is tailored to the specific needs of international school communities.

Deep Dive #1 Introducing a new protocol for Managing Allegations of Abuse Against Adults (2 Days)

Only open to individuals who have already attended a Foundation Workshop

  • Case study review; group discussion and reflection
  • Preparing for an allegation: identifying and building relationships with local agencies, reviewing policies and establishing amulti-disciplinary managing allegations team
  • Preparing for an allegation: implementing a child protection programme: policies, roles and responsibilities
  • Responding to an allegation: urgent actions; supporting and responding appropriately to victims and alleged perpetrators
  • Responding to an allegation: legal implications and conflicting duties - how to prioritise different objectives and be aware of (but not hidebound by) legal risks
  • Responding to an allegation: communicating effectively to all constituents
  • Following an allegation: steps to take to review your systems and learn lessons

Learning objectives:

  • To guide the establishment of child protection systems within schools.
  • To learn the importance of access to a multi-disciplinary team of experts.
  • To effectively manage allegations of abuse and strengthen decision-making.
Deep Dive #2 For Counsellors and Psychologists ONLY (2 Days)

Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS*), including case consultation *Certification program for counsellors and psychologists

Learning objectives:

  • To become certified to provide Cognitive Behavioral Intervention for Trauma in Schools (CBITS).
  • To gain insights, strategies and methods through consultation to address current cases.
Deep Dive #3 Educating and Supporting Students (2 Days)

Only open to individuals who have already attended a Foundation Workshop

  • Peer on peer abuse, including virtual abuse, how to address it in international school communities
  • Contextual safeguarding, understanding your context and thinking about students’ life beyond the school walls
  • Healthy Relationships Education: New curriculum from UNESCO and WHO
  • Developing Self-Protective Skills in Students
  • Discuss challenges supporting students, parents and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Case study review: group discussion and reflection

Learning objectives:

  • To acquire the knowledge and information necessary to address peer-on-peer abuse effectively in your school
  • To acquire the knowledge and skills to teach age-appropriate, healthy relationship education to children and young people in international school communities.
  • Explore information, values and attitudes towards relationships and sexual activity (both physical and virtual).
  • To increase participants’ understanding, skills and confidence to detect and address disclosures of abuse, neglect or exploitation in a culturally competent manner.

How to Register:

Registration is open to all faculty and staff, including Board Members/Governors at CIS member schools and universities, CIS affiliated consultants and supporting members.

  • CIS member: If you are employed at a school or university that is a member of CIS, register via the CIS Community Portal to receive the exclusive member event fee. 
  • Non-member school: If you are a guidance/university counsellor currently employed at a K-12/high school that is not a member of CIS, learn how to register.
